Bug

A fellow critic named Jonathan Romney, on seeing Bug, told Mark "it's horrible. You'll love it." He wasn't wrong.

A William Friedkin movie in which Ashley Judd and Michael Shannon check into a hotel room and proceed to go completely insane, Bug was one of Mark's favourite films of 2007 (although Mark had actually seen it at Cannes some 15 months earlier). The fact that it opened in only one cinema in the UK - at the same time as Good Luck Chuck went on nationwide release - did not please him. Nor did it please Simon Mayo, who implored Mark to make a Movie of the Week something that everyone could see (Simon's choice being Lions For Lambs); Mark, however, insisted that his choice was Bug and if you could not get to see Bug, you should be writing to your local cinema demanding to know why they weren't showing it.
