Two hours and twenty one minutes of emotionally sweeping testament to the triumph of hope and friendship over despair and corruption, and one minute of screen-tested prototype Nicholas Sparks movie that has no right being there whatsoever. Wittertainee Ben in London once wrote to the show explaining how he had made a Kermodian edit of the film which removed the final scene, and concluded that Mark was right.

There's a lot of Shawshank before you get to the Redemption.

Mark liked The Shawshank Redemption so much he literally wrote the book on it, although it does not appear in his All Time Top 10 Best Films Evs.

According to Mark, Mr Norden, the warden, is really Richard Nixon. So therefore the Devil.

The film was very eloquently summed up by one player of the game with no name as "intoxication; incarceration; banging; hanging; rope; hope."

One listener later informed the programme that their daughter was having a special birthday screening of the film for her and her friends, none of whom had seen it before. They enquired as to whether they should rush in and stop the film before the final scene. Mark's answer was a resounding yes.
