Peter Jackson's spectacular Middle Earth series - Elijah Wood, Viggo Mortensen, Ian McKellen, but Orloondo Bland. The original books spawned the word Hobbitytosh, though the films themselves are epics (albeit they follow the High School Musical rule - first great; second is a dip; third brings it back).
