Exorcist II: The Heretic
Exorcist II: The Heretic
Jean de Boorman's Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977) has been described by Mark Kermode as "the worst film ever made".
Whilst a disappointment to anyone expecting more in the vein of The Exorcist (1973) and, indeed, incompetent in some areas, the film is rather good in places.
Dr. K's above statement suggests it's somehow worse than Sex and the City 2 or Entourage, which is an unfair comparison.
The cinematography, special effects (some done in camera), set design, music score (by Ennio Morricone), make up (by Dick Smith) and casting of the film are all second to none, as was, according to Linda Blair, the original script. The oddly judged performances, final shooting script and corny dialogue are the main offenders. It also featured one of the earliest know uses of the Steadycam, a device now used daily in the motion picture industry. A more metaphysical, cerebral film than its predecessor, it's actually a film Simon might enjoy. It certainly doesn't lack imagination, just focus.
