Competitions
Before the 2007 BBC phone-in scandal, listeners were able to win movie-related items from the programme. One competition, at the time of the first Casino Royale (ker-CHING) in 2006, could be won by identifying the films being criticised in an edited compilation of six prime pieces of Kermodian rant into one radvent calendar. The prize included the entire James Bond series on DVD in an attache case, although the attache case turned out not to be included. Nor did the original, David Niven, Casino Royale. Or Never Say Never Again. By this point, the Good Doctors concluded it was barely worth winning.
When awarding the prize in December 2006, Simon said that "the radio tradition would be to make up the winners, and then you get to keep [the prize]." Words that would eight months later be proved to be very publicly true.
