Angry Shrek

AKA The Jolly Green Giant In Stretchy Pants; AKA The Incredible Hulk. The 2008 film (not 2003's Hulk - tagline "you wouldn't like me when I'm Ang Lee") starring - and, according to some, written by - Edward Norton (who then failed to reappear in the rest of the series, his place being taken by Mark Ruffalo).

In Mark Kermode's view, the character of the Incredible Hulk has one massive flaw - it just isn't interesting. To see something really visceral about the physical manifestation of anger, see David Cronenberg's The Brood, in which a woman gives birth to the children of her rage. This, on the other hand, continues to lack the physicality that so many identified as the problem with the Ang Lee version; Hulk just boings around like a big green bouncy castle. Mark felt even the Godzilla films, which had a man in a suit, were better - at least the besuited man had heft.

Also, despite being directed by Louis Leterrier, Angry Shrek completely failed to include any scenes of Jason Statham wrestling in oil, which was a major disappointment.

Simon Mayo thought it was great though.
