# Trickle up

Dr Mark Kermode's theory that the most talented craftspeople in Hollywood start out by making low-end [scrunge](Scrunge) like Body Chemistry or Carnal Crimes for people like Roger Corman or Greg Dark, thus giving them a good proving ground from which they can they confidently soar when it comes to bringing something exceptional or different to a blockbuster. Exhibit A in this theory is always [Wally Pfister](Wally_Pfister), though Phedon Papamichael, who was cinematographer on [3:10 To Yuma](Unforgiven) \- having started out on Stripped To Kill 2 - also gets a mention.

Given that [Jennifer Aniston](Jennifer_Aniston), [Renée Zellweger](Renée_Zellweger) and Demi Moore all had their big breaks in low-end horror films, it seems unlikely the theory applies to actresses.
