Trickle up

Dr Mark Kermode's theory that the most talented craftspeople in Hollywood start out by making low-end scrunge like Body Chemistry or Carnal Crimes for people like Roger Corman or Greg Dark, thus giving them a good proving ground from which they can they confidently soar when it comes to bringing something exceptional or different to a blockbuster. Exhibit A in this theory is always Wally Pfister, though Phedon Papamichael, who was cinematographer on 3:10 To Yuma - having started out on Stripped To Kill 2 - also gets a mention.

Given that Jennifer Aniston, Renée Zellweger and Demi Moore all had their big breaks in low-end horror films, it seems unlikely the theory applies to actresses.
