In the 1980s, the UK's Director of Public Prosecutions produced a list of 72 films deemed offensive under the Obscene Publications Act 1959, following a moral campaign by Mary Whitehouse. Mark Kermode considered it a hitlist of movies he had to see, and there were many inclusions of which he had not heard and was gratified to have them pointed out to him.
The list included Last House On The Left, The Witch Who Came From The Sea and The Loneliness Of The Long Distance Painter.
