The Brothers Grimm
The Brothers Grimm
The least Gilliam-esque Terry Gilliam film, The Brothers Grimm was the movie Gilliam made as a result of a pact with Johnny Depp for both of them to do a mainstream film after the disaster that befell The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. While Depp went off to make Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl - "for which I have never forgiven him" (Mark Kermode, BBC Radio 5live) - Gilliam signed on for The Brothers Grimm, starring MATT DAMON and Heath Ledger.
In Mark's view, The Brothers Grimm was hugely compromised by studio interference, not least in Gilliam being forced to cast Lena Headey and not Samantha Morton as his leading lady.
Peter in the Czech Republic reported that the locals where the movie had been filmed had been left distraught by Gilliam's decision to torch the loving-crafted sets in the climax.
