The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford

"It's got heart, it's got soul, it's got something that hints at a world beyond this. It's really good." - Mark Kermode, BBC Radio 5live

Existentialist rather than elegiac. Brad Pitt being quite good and Casey Affleck being far better. A perfect-length exploration of both celebrity and the nature of what it is to embrace death. Mark absolutely loved it - as did Nigel Floyd - as they left the screening, both saying to each other, "is it just me, or is that the best film of this year."

The film was the subject of a Kermodian Rhapsody almost as long as its title. Mark insisted that if you see the film and it doesn't work for you, the fault is not the film's, it's yours. He particularly enjoyed it when someone came up to him at Waterloo Station and said "you are so right."

Listener feedback, however, was somewhat less impressed - as was Simon Mayo, who described it as "two hours too long" and "disappointing."
