Mark Kermode's observation that whenever a TV show makes the leap to the big screen, it will always, at around 45 minute in, send the main characters abroad. The rule applies to everything from 1970s British sitcoms like Porridge and On The Buses to massive US TV hits like The Simpsons and Sex And The City.
