Simon Mayo Not Knowing Things
Simon Mayo Not Knowing Things
A listener-compiled piece of audio from Ben in London broadcast in May 2015, which took its inspiration from the Tumblr Kim Jong Un Looking At Things. It featured Mark asking Simon the following questions, to be met with bafflement on each occasion:
MARK: Here's Babel in a nutshell: "you know, we're all a bit, aren't we?"
SIMON: We're all a bit what?
-
MARK: His previous meditations on Israel-Palestine relations include Chronicle Of A Disappearance and Divine Intervention, both of which I know you have seen Simon.
SIMON: What was that?"
-
MARK: You ever seen Lost Highway?
SIMON: Ooh, dunno.
-
MARK: Have you ever see Altered States? The Ken Russell film?
SIMON: No.
-
MARK: What are they adaptations of, Simon, Ran and Throne Of Blood?
SIMON: Ah, ah, I think it's Grease, isn't it?
-
MARK: You ever seen that Ernest Borgnine film The Devil's Rain?
SIMON: Ah, ooh, er... no.
-
MARK: Have you seen Funny Games, Simon?
SIMON: Er, eh, er...
-
MARK: How do you not know Toodles?
SIMON: I - cos I - er...
-
MARK: You ever seen Down By Law?
SIMON: No I haven't.
-
MARK: How many layers are there in Dante's Inferno? Is it seven?
SIMON: Ffffheww.
-
MARK: What Jane Austen have you read?
SIMON: I can't - I don't think -
MARK: "I - sha - er - er?"
-
MARK: Les Amants Du Pont-Neuf - remember Les Amants Du Pont-Neuf?
SIMON: I understand nothing of what you've said in the last 30 seconds.
-
MARK: If you want to want to know something weird about Bakelite, watch Savage Gr-hmm-dmm-hmm. Or maybe not. But it's more than you want to know about Bakelite.
SIMON: What did any of that mean?
-
At the end of the clip, Simon said "I agree with myself - I still don't know what you're talking about."
