Red Herring Alert

Warning spoken by Simon Mayo when Mark Kermode goes into a punchline-free celebrity anecdote. Coined after Mark, during his review of The Bucket List, said "there's a thin line between kick the bucket and pass the bucket, much like there's a thin line between love and hate" - he then pondered who had said there was a thin line between love and hate, and on releasing it was The Pretenders, began launching into an anecdote about meeting Chrissie Hynde in a cinema foyer: "She was lovely. And a vegetarian."

At this point, Simon issued a Red Herring Alert.
