Punch-Drunk Love
"A fantastic film. It is near-as-dammit flawless" - Mark Kermode, BBC Radio 5 Live
However low Adam Sandler sinks - and with Jack And Jill, Grown-Ups and That's My Boy in recent memory, that's pretty low - Mark Kermode can never write him off completely, because he was just so good in Punch-Drunk Love.
As Mark points out, it's a film about love in which love story in which the most romantic thing anyone says to anyone is, "you're so beautiful, I just want to smash your face with a hammer."
The film's director, Paul Thomas Anderson, took five years to follow it up, but when he did so, it was with the masterpiece There / Will / Be / Blood. Strangely enough, however, it seems that he didn't consider Sandler for the role of Daniel Plainview.
