Caine took the role in the last of the Jaws quadrilogy after reading the first line of the script, "Fade in: Bahamas".

One of actor Michael Caine's notorious "paycheck pictures" alongside Ashanti (1979), The Swarm (1978), The Island (1980), Blame It on Rio (1984) and Beyond the Poseidon Adventure (1979).

When Caine was asked about Jaws: The Revenge in an interview, he answered, "I have never seen it, but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built, and it is terrific."
