Harrington Jacket
The Harrington jacket is a lightweight waist-length jacket, made of cotton, polyester, wool or suede, usually with a traditional Fraser tartan or check-patterned lining. It was first made in the 1930s, but became popular in the mid-1960s when it gained the nickname Harrington Jacket, after the character of Rodney Harrington, played by Ryan O'Neal, in the TV series Peyton Place.
It is a particular favourite of Dr K, who has a collection of 15 examples, though only 14 of which are "functioning". This number may have increased since the last count was pre-Christmas 2014.
A Harrington is not a coat. And it is not good form to have your name on the back.
