Ham

Over-acting, but done in a way that is not fun - which would be ripe - but is just bad. Usually seen when an actor is incapable of dialling down their performance, either because they are too big of a star for the director to handle (see Johnny Depp in the Pirates Of The Caribbean movies) or because they are picking up the cheque so that they can subsidise something they actually care about, like John Malkovich in Eragon.

Variety's review of Faye Dunaway in Mommie Dearest perhaps best encapsulates ham: "Dunaway does not chew scenery. Dunaway starts neatly at each corner of the set in every scene and swallows it whole, costars and all."
