Mark Kermode is rendered into something approaching schoolboy love when in her presence. The moment in Love Actually where she breaks down after realising her husband is having an affair was the one bit of the film that Mark always thought was astonishingly good. (He criticised the rest of the film for being too all over the place, but the Good Lady Professor Her Indoors got him to change his mind).

Listener speculation has it that Thompson's appearance at the start of I Am John Legend makes her the person who has killed more (Earth-dwelling) people in movie history than anyone else.
