A History Of Violence

Along with Crash (the Sandra Bullock one), David Cronenberg's A History Of Violence was Mark Kermode's favourite film of 2005. Famously, he said that within five years of the film's release, the main star Viggo Mortensen would be universally acknowledged as the new Robert de Niro. Given Robert de Niro has since gone on to make films like Dirty Grandpa, this may have been praising with faint damns.

Despite Mark's best efforts to avoid all spoilers, Simon Mayo - who had not seen the film - accidentally revealed rather more about A History Of Violence than was intended when he read one listener email that described the plot as having been ripped off of The Long Kiss Goodnight. This prompted something of a listener backlash.
