# Death Proof

“Kurt Russell in a role that _Mickey Rourke_ turned down. Open the door so the whiff can leave the room.” - _Mark Kermode, BBC Radio 5live_

The eight-and-three-quarterth film by [Quentin Tarantino](Quentin_Tarantino). Mark hated it so much that he refused to applaud Tarantino at [Cannes](Cannes), even when asked to by [William Friedkin](William_Friedkin) (who had let Tarantino use the music from [Cruising](Cruising) in the movie).

Centres on a group of women who talk like Quentin Tarantino – indeed, everyone talks like Quentin Tarantino, apart from Quentin Tarantino, who can’t deliver his own lines like himself thanks to his staggeringly bad acting.

Death Proof was the subject of a quite superb [Kermodian rant](Kermodian_rant), culminating in a lawyer-style speech which described Tarantino as "a money-grabbing sell-out who can’t write, can’t direct and has run out of ideas".
