A phrase used by a number of film critics to describe a spate of movies released in or around 2007-08 that focused on the depiction of extremely brutal violence towards young women.
The [Hostel](Hostel_2) and Saw series, Vacancy, The Hills Have Eyes remake and [its sequel](The_Hills_Have_Eyes_2), [That Torture Movie](That_Torture_Movie) and even [Grindhouse](Death_Proof) were cited as examples of the genre in the British press.
Mark, however, refused to accept that such a category genuinely existed - until the release of [Captivity](Captivity), when he had to concede that although torture porn still didn't actually exist, Captivity had been made by people who wanted to make money out of the fact that they thought that it did.
