An expression coined by Mark's colleague Nigel Floyd to describe films where a loud "BANG!" is used to make the audience to jump (as though being poked with an electric cattle prod) from surprise at the loud noise, rather than being actually scared of the film itself. Examples of this technique are the _Insidious_ and _Paranormal Activity_ franchises.
